The best time to travel to Mauritius is between the months of May and December, this is when the weather is dry, moderate and sunny. Like many Indian Ocean destinations, there is never a bad time to visit, but one should be aware of cyclone season, January to March.

Mauritius is a great destination for a family vacation with several resorts throughout the country accommodating those of all ages. With much to do it is not only for couples, although this is a significant part of their tourism.

The best way of getting around Mauritius is via bus. An alternative to this is renting a car to explore the island. It can be best to stay at a resort or boutique hotel and plan excursions around this stay.

A visa is not required when travelling as a tourist from Canada or the United States for up to 90 and 60 days, respectively. A valid passport is mandatory for travel.

There are several languages spoken throughout Mauritius with the main ones being English, Creole, and French.

The currency used throughout the country is the Mauritian rupee. Credit cards are accepted at most hotels, restaurants and tourist shops. ATMs are common throughout
the country dispensing local currency. Credit cards are widely accepted and there are, and ATMs are available for cash withdrawals. Like most destinations, it is advisable to have some local currency for incidental purchases and gratuities.
